The Folk music of England can boast of a long and glorious history. The folk music of England has undergone a great revival during the last half of twentieth century.

The earliest music of England includes the music that had been created in the medieval period. Some of the folk music of England of that era still survives like, church music, carols and ballads. During the 16th and 17th century the taste in music changed for the noble classes. The renaissance had a great influence on the folk music in England. Musical knowledge and playing of musical instrument became a necessary part of the social gatherings. The courtly music of England got the International fame in terms of content and instruments.
During the 18th century, the courtly music became mote popular with Mozart and Handel. During the 19th century, the folk music of England went through a rapid transformation with different regional idioms coming together and reforming to be accepted internationally and commercially.
