Life in Medieval England was really interesting. It was the period of cultural and political stirrings. Medieval England witnessed the growth of a new social class which was destined to gain great importance in the future – the newly rich middle class. In fact, medieval England was a period of rapid change and development in every sphere of life.

The medieval England witnessed the growth of trade guilds. It was the first time when the control over trade and commerce moved from the hands of the king/queen to the hands of the guilds or trade unions. There were separate craft guilds and merchant guilds.
The curfew bell was an important feature of medieval England. The curfew bell was rung at 9:00 pm in the night. It marked the time after when all the street shops were expected to close and it marked the end of the day. Common people were not allowed on the streets after the curfew bell was rung. Just like the curfew bell marked the end pf the day, the Angelus bell marked the beginning of the day. It was rung at 5:00 am in the morning.
The city infrastructure was not very good in medieval England. The city streets were very bad condition. The judicial system was very corrupt and the rich were considered as the privileged section of the society.
